8th Pay Commission: what we know
- The Union Government announced the 8th Central Pay Commission in January 2025 and approved its Terms of Reference in October 2025, with an 18-month window for the report.
- Past commissions have taken effect from 1 January of the tenth year (7th CPC: 1 January 2016), so 1 January 2026 is the widely expected effective date — arrears would be paid once it is implemented.
- The fitment factor, minimum pay, HRA rates and pension revision will be decided by the government after the report.
- DA (dearness allowance) is merged into basic pay when a new commission is implemented, so DA restarts at 0%.
