Quick answer

Your age for a government job is counted on the cut-off date given in the notification (“age as on”), not on the day you apply. You must have reached the minimum age and must not have reached the maximum age on that date. For SSC CGL 2025 (18–27 years as on 01-01-2025) that means being born between 02-01-1998 and 01-01-2007. Category relaxation — usually 3 years for OBC, 5 for SC/ST and 10 for PwBD — is added to the upper limit.

Uses the SSC/UPSC rule: you must have reached the minimum age and must not have reached the maximum age on the cut-off date. Relaxations are the usual central-government rules; state and PSU rules can differ. If the notification gives an exact date-of-birth range, that range is final.

Enter your date of birth to see your age and eligibility.

How to use the Age Calculator

  1. 1Enter your date of birthUse the date written on your 10th class certificate — that is the date recruiters accept.
  2. 2Enter the cut-off dateFind the “age as on” date in the notification (for example 01-01-2027) and enter it.
  3. 3Enter the age limitsType the minimum and maximum age from the notification.
  4. 4Choose your categorySelect your category to apply the usual relaxation. The tool shows whether you are eligible and the exact date-of-birth range that is eligible.

Upper age relaxation in central government jobs

Relaxation is added to the upper age limit only. State governments and some organisations have their own rules, so the notification always has the final word.

Common upper age relaxation (central recruitments)
CategoryRelaxation
OBC (non-creamy layer)3 years
SC / ST5 years
PwBD (General / EWS)10 years
PwBD (OBC)13 years
PwBD (SC / ST)15 years
Ex-servicemen3 years after deducting military service

How the calculation works

  • Age is the completed years, months and days between your date of birth and the cut-off date.
  • SSC and UPSC treat “18 to 27 years” as: must have turned 18 and must not have turned 27 on the cut-off date — e.g. born between 02-01-1998 and 01-01-2007 for a cut-off of 01-01-2025.
  • Many notifications state the limit as a date range, e.g. “born not before 02-01-2000 and not after 01-01-2009”. In that case, compare your date of birth with those two dates directly.
