About the scheme

The NITI Internship Scheme (NITI‑I) is a central government initiative run by NITI Aayog to engage students from recognized universities in India or abroad as interns. Interns work in various divisions such as agriculture, economics, health, infrastructure and many others, gaining practical exposure to government functioning and contributing to policy formulation through empirical analysis and reports. The internship lasts between six weeks and six months, is unpaid, and successful completion earns an experience certificate issued by the concerned division adviser.

Who can apply (eligibility)

  • Bonafide student of any recognized University/Institution within India or abroad
  • Under‑graduate students who have completed/appeared in the term‑end exams of second year/4th semester of bachelor degree and secured not less than 85% or equivalent marks in 12th class
  • Graduate students who have completed/appeared in the term‑end exams of first year/2nd semester of post‑graduate programme or are pursuing research/PhD and secured not less than 70% or equivalent marks in Graduation
  • Students who have appeared in final exam or just completed Graduation/PG and are waiting for admission to higher studies may be considered if they have secured 70% or more cumulative marks in all years/semesters till the date of application and the period between declaration of result and desired internship month does not exceed six months
  • Candidates must apply two months in advance; the application is valid only for the desired month
  • Interns must maintain at least 75% attendance to successfully complete the internship
  • Selected applicants must produce original mark sheets and a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their college/institution at the time of joining
